Software Defined Network (SDN) is a new network innovation architecture of Emulex network. Its core technology, OpenFlow, realizes flexible control of network traffic by separating the control surface of network devices from the data surface.
Advantages and characteristics of SDON technology
SDON technology has three advantages. First, it can effectively solve the interconnection between heterogeneous networks. By expanding OpenFlow and other related protocols and developing object-oriented interactive control interfaces, we can realize the abstraction of heterogeneous network information and the integration of cross layer network control, thus establishing a new heterogeneous network architecture with unified control capability between the access network and the core network, data network and optical network, wired network and wireless network. Second, it can meet the needs of users for optical network layout. Realize flexibility in the use, operation and sales of network equipment, and enable users to obtain the desired service functions at a faster speed. Third, SDON can bring virtual management of optical network resources. Its network equipment can cover all OTN products, giving better play to the advantages of network infrastructure resources, and optimizing the use of network resources through an open unified resource management platform. The characteristics of the multi domain SDON technical solution of the hierarchical controller architecture are as follows:
The whole architecture is divided into four layers: APP application layer, Orchestrator master controller layer, single domain controller layer and Optical Network device layer.
The NBI interface between the APP application layer and the Orchestrator master controller focuses on the Restful interface mechanism. The Restful mechanism borrows from the architecture style of WEB services and has such technical advantages as statelessness, simple and efficient implementation, loose coupling, and scalability, thus providing a natural technical support for the north facing interface NBI to realize the open control, programmable, definable and other technical features of SDON.
The SBI interface between the single domain controller layer and the OpticalNetwork device layer is as compatible as possible with the WAS ON and earlier deployed OTN networks, to ensure the interconnection between the SDON network and these network devices, and to better meet the smooth upgrade and gradual evolution ideas of operators for business deployment
